Meet our Speaker

Raja Chatila

Raja Chatila is Professor emeritus at Sorbonne Université. He is former Director of the Institute of Intelligent Systems and Robotics (ISIR) and of the Laboratory of Excellence “SMART” on human-machine interaction. He was director of LAAS-CNRS, Toulouse France, in 2007-2010. His research covers several aspects of Robotics in robot navigation and SLAM, motion planning and control, cognitive and control architectures, human-robot interaction, machine learning, and ethics. He  works on robotics projects in the areas of service, field, aerial and space robotics. He is author of over 170 international publications on these topics. Current and recent projects: HumanE AI Net the network of excellence of AI centers in Europe, AI4EU promoting AI in Europe,  AVETHICS on the ethics of automated vehicle decisions, Roboergosum on robot self-awareness and Spencer on human-robot interaction in populated environments. He was President of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society for the term 2014-2015. He is co-chair of the Responsible AI Working group in the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) and member of the French National Pilot Committee for Digital Ethics (CNPEN). He is chair of the IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems. He was member of the High Level Expert Group in AI with the European Commission (HLEG-AI). Honors: IEEE Fellow, IEEE Pioneer Award in Robotics and Automation, Honorary Doctor of Örebro University (Sweden).

Vera Lúcia Raposo

She is currently an Assistant Professor of Law and Technology at NOVA School of Law (Portugal), and a part-time contributor to the Centre for Medical Ethics and Law, University of Hong Kong (China).In the past, she lectured at the University of Macau (China), the University of Coimbra (Portugal) and the University Agostinho Neto (Angola). She was also of-counsel at the law firm Vieira de Almeida e Associados, in Lisbon, in the departments of health law and privacy law.Vera Lúcia Raposo is a frequent speaker at academic events worldwide and a member of the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Health Law. She is the author of several studies in Portuguese, English and Spanish (some translated into Chinese), particularly on biomedical law (medical liability, patient safety, gene editing, reproductive issues) and new digital technologies (AI, digital governance, data protection).

He is currently a Research Manager with SINTEF Manufacturing and also part-time Associate Professor with the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology, UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
His research fields are automation, robotics, computer vision, and control theory. During his Ph.D. studies, he was focusing on novel programming methods for Flexible Manufacturing Systems and have developed a concept called small-scale intelligent manufacturing systems (SIMS). He is the Chair of the IEEE IES-Technical Committee on Control, Robotics and Mechatronics, and the Secretary of the IFAC TC on Robotics.
