Cognitive Load and Engagement in Human-Robot Collaboration: From Robots in Hazardous Environments to Educational Applications

Naples, ITALY
10th September 2025

About

As social robots become increasingly integrated into everyday life, understanding the impact of human-robot interactions on cognitive load and user engagement is essential for designing effective and meaningful experiences. This workshop aims to explore the dynamic relationship between cognitive load and engagement in the context of social robots.

Participants will examine how different interaction styles, robot behaviors, and task complexities influence users’ mental effort and their overall engagement levels. Through a combination of presentations and discussions, the workshop will address key research questions such as: How does cognitive load influence the interaction? What factors contribute to an engaging experience with social robots, and how can these be optimized?

By bringing together experts and researchers from robotics and cognitive science this workshop will foster collaboration and the development of innovative strategies to enhance the design and usability of social robots, ultimately improving their integration into daily human activities
